An explanation of the process

In case you’re wondering why we’re not recruiting new proof-readers when we have so many chapters pending proof-reading, it’s because the chapters are pending Chinese-English proof-reading! Here’s how it works:

  1. Translator sends in partially or completely translated chapter.
  2. First round of proof-reading. First Chinese-English proof-reader checks for inaccuracies in word choice, sentence structure by comparing the translation with the original.
  3. Second round of proof-reading. Second proof-reader approves/ amends the first proof-reader’s edits before adding their edits. As they are English proof-readers, they deal with spelling, grammar and all the works.
  4. First proof-reader is to approve/ amend the second proof-reader’s edits. May upload the chapter first before sending it to the third proof-reader.
  5. Third and final round of proof-reading. Third proof-reader goes through the chapter in detail, comparing it to the original as well as check for grammar mistakes and errors in sentence structure.
  6. After the final edits have been approved, the chapter is either shelved or uploaded (if it hasn’t been uploaded yet).

Looks pretty tedious, doesn’t it? Not to mention that you readers still spot errors every now and then… So the entire process is really time and energy-consuming. Whew!
